There is a light at the end of the tunnel and tourism can finally pick up speed again! The forced break from traveling and hosting has given both guests and accommodations time to rethink. How do we want to travel in the future? What is the best way to continue to preserve our environment in all its beauty?

The magic word for a green vacation
The magic word is sustainability. For GreenLine Hotels, this trend, which has also gained a foothold in the tourism industry, is no longer a foreign concept. The former hotel cooperation and current booking platform for sustainably certified hotels is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
So it makes sense that GreenLine Hotels is a partner of Click A Tree. Because Click A Tree’s mission is to bring sustainability into everyday life. Of course, traveling is part of that.
If you book a stay at one of the certified GreenLine Hotels, you can support tree planting via the Klimahelden Shop¹ and thus make a contribution to climate protection.
You can relax with a clear conscience in these 4 hotels.
Vacation paradise Germany: 4 sustainable hotels
A vacation doesn’t always have to involve a flight. We introduce you to great hotels that are located in beautiful regions of Germany and that have integrated ecological action into their operations in an exemplary manner.
They are all holders of GreenSign – the sustainability seal for hotels ², which is awarded by the InfraCert Institute for Sustainable Development in the Hotel Industry.
Vacation at Landhaus Beckmann in Kalkar
The Landhaus Beckmann is a real traditional business. The former farm has been owned by the Beckmann family since 1850. But despite its long history, a breath of fresh air is blowing through the 4-star hotel in Kalkar on the Lower Rhine.
41 well-equipped rooms in various price and comfort categories invite you to linger. The hotel impresses with numerous wellness and fitness offers in its own Libertine SPA.
The menu in the restaurant should also be emphasized. Landhaus Beckmann, which is certified with GreenSign Level 4, is a “vegan-friendly establishment” and offers a variety of plant-based dishes.
Products on the drinks menu and in the minibar are now also completely free from animal products. As part of the “Genussregion Niederrhein” association, the hotel attaches great importance to its regional partners and seasonal products.
The Lower Rhine destination also impresses with its landscape characterized by green spaces and rivers. The Niers hiking trail is a good 20 kilometers long and leads through an idyllic nature reserve along the eponymous river almost to the Dutch border.
The almost 800-year-old town of Kalkar with its historic town center and the artistic carvings in the St. Nicolai church is also worth a visit.
Beach vacation at Haffhus in the seaside resort of Ueckermünde
Take a vacation in perhaps the least known Baltic Sea region in Germany – on the Szczecin Lagoon. Just two hours away from the capital, there is a relatively quiet tourist paradise by the sea. White sandy beaches invite you to go swimming and the nature park “Am Stettiner Haff” offers many opportunities for hiking and cycling.
The Hotel Haffhus is located near the harbor town of Ueckermünde with direct access to the water. The extensive vacation resort offers a wide range of accommodation options – from cozy double rooms to spacious apartments and vacation homes.
Several pools, saunas and massage treatments are available for those seeking relaxation in the 1,500 m² wellness and spa area.
The Haffhus also has its own bike and boat hire, a bowling alley and offers other leisure equipment for hire.
Gastronomically, the hotel impresses with a monthly changing menu of seasonal dishes as well as selected cake and ice cream specialties in the café. From the roof terrace you can enjoy the fantastic view of the Szczecin Lagoon and the island of Usedom with a cup of cappuccino or a glass of wine.
What’s more, Hotel Haffhus is 100 percent energy self-sufficient and generates its electricity exclusively from renewable sources. Thanks to this fantastic sustainability record, Hotel Haffhus was awarded the highest GreenSign Level 5.
Still looking for the perfect destination? Then give the Szczecin Lagoon, incidentally also the region with the least rainfall in Germany, a chance!
Travel to the Black Forest Panorama in Bad Herrenalb
A centuries-old spa town, healing spring water and mystical forests – that’s Bad Herrenalb in the Black Forest. The 4-star superior Hotel Schwarzwald Panorama is located in the middle of this enchanted mountain landscape.
Sustainability is a top priority here, which is why the Schwarzwald Panorama is one of the few hotels certified with GreenSign Level 5.
The hotel offers the option of climate compensation, has an electric charging station and, as a Bioland partner with Gold status, guarantees the use of at least 90 percent certified organic products in the preparation of meals. The breakfast buffet is zero waste, i.e. without packaging waste, and vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free dishes are also available.
As part of the “Schmeck den Süden – Gastronomen Baden-Württemberg” initiative, the Schwarzwald Panorama is committed to using only regional ingredients. Delicious food is of course part of a vacation.
The name “Black Forest Panorama” says it all: from the panorama terrace, you can enjoy a magnificent 180-degree view over the town of Bad Herrenalb and the surrounding mountain peaks and valleys. Each
room also has a spacious balcony or terrace from which you can relax and watch nature.
There is plenty to discover in the Black Forest region, especially for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers. Hiking in the unspoiled natural landscape, fast-paced mountain biking, paragliding or geocaching guarantee variety. But the historic old town of Bad Herrenalb is also worth a visit.
You can relax at the end of the day in the hotel’s own spa area with whirlpool, sun terrace, saunas and fitness suite. The Schwarzwald Panorama is also a Wellness Stars Hotel with four stars!
And if you are traveling on business, the Black Forest Panorama is also a good place to be. The hotel offers 11 event and conference rooms on 3 levels with a total area of 1,300 m². When the weather is fine, meetings can also be held outdoors and the “Green Meetings” concept means that the events are also sustainable.
Vacation at the Hotel Elbresidenz in Bad Schandau
The Hotel Elbresidenz in the center of Bad Schandau impresses with luxurious furnishings and service as well as a selected wellness program.
It is the only 5-star hotel in Saxon Switzerland and the roots of the historic building can be traced back to the beginning of the 17th century. The Elbresidenz was also awarded GreenSign Level 4 for its commitment to sustainability.
The more than 200 rooms are elegantly furnished and offer views of the Elbe, the atrium or the Bad Schandau market square. In the stylish lounges, some of which are themed, you can enjoy a relaxed breakfast or host a private party. You can also dine outside with a view in the summer garden and in the evening you can enjoy an exotic drink in the Rio Xingú Bar with its enchanting
piano sounds.
But there is also plenty to experience around the hotel. Bad Schandau, the oldest spa town in Saxon Switzerland, impresses with its historic town center and close proximity to the unique Elbe Sandstone Mountains (in the impressive Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland National Park).
If you need a break from all the climbing and hiking, you can visit the cultural capitals of Dresden and Prague or cycle along the Elbe cycle path.
Conveniently, the Aktiv-Zentrum Sächsische Schweiz is located directly in the Hotel Elbresidenz, so booking tours into the mountains and renting bicycles is no problem at all.
The hotel itself also offers numerous spa and beauty treatments. It has a private bathroom, saunas, experience showers and a fitness area.
No wishes remain unfulfilled!
